In these two series, I explore isolation in both today’s urban society and that of a bygone era. I have little knowledge of the people used as subject. Taken from photographs depicting fleeting moments on the street or of a stoic seated portrait, I can only respond to the emotion of the person and piece together the life I see in front of me. I willingly create a distorted and at times sorrowful reality. I allow the grain of each panel to dictate the figure’s form, letting the image gradually emerge from within the wood.
